About this Episode
Let's talk about the recent phenomenon that's flooding the digital world, and that is cancel culture. Now, this isn't a brand new topic, and others have covered it before me. However, it is a topic that's been weighing heavily on my heart, especially as a Christian entrepreneur.
Here's the thing, I fully support people spending their money and supporting businesses, or people, or causes that you agree with. I personally try to do the same thing as often as possible. I also support people exercising their rights to not spend their money at places where they disagree with their stance on something or if they question the integrity of the company or the person or whatever it may be.
But that isn't what cancel culture is. Instead, cancel culture is when a business or person is thrust out of influence, fame, or professional or social circles. This can be due to controversial behavior, something they said or did that a group of people disagree with. Many times this takes place on social media. Where influencers or a mass of people decide to publicly pull their support from a business or person, often partnered with publicly shaming them for their decision or choices. The people doing the canceling often leave zero room for questions, explanations, or even apologies.
This is where I have an issue and believe as Christian entrepreneurs, we need to show more grace and leave room for repentance.
